Emirates SkyCargo will boost cargo capacity to Africa in early February by adding five weekly flights from Dubai to the capitals of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The freight division of Emirates Airlines said the A330-200 freighter will provide a weekly capacity of 160 metric tons to Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe, starting Feb. 1. Emirates launched a weekly cargo service to West Africa with calls at Accra, Ghana, and Lome less than three months ago.
The carrier has an annual capacity of more than 300,000 tons to the continent, according to Emirates 24/7, an online new site.
"While many regions are experiencing challenging economic conditions, Africa â€" with a population in excess of 1 billion and rich in natural resources â€" is one of the few areas to record growth and the long-term outlook is very positive," said Ram Menen, Emirates' divisional senior vice president of cargo.
