SOUTH African kwaito god Professor who was supposed to arrive in London on Friday on a two-legged tour of England has postponed his tour due to VISA issues.

The promoters of the show issued a statement today saying "We regrettably announce that the Professor tour to the UK has been postponed until further notice. We are aware that some had purchased advance tickets, please hold on to them for further advice. There is already people out there who will claim to be able to refund your tickets, please do not give any details to anyone until we have advised a course of action. We sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience, and promise that we are looking to rectify this as soon as possible.

They also confirmed that the postponement was due to issues beyond their control. "Yes it is true that the issue is with the VISAs, these have delayed in processing. All details were submitted on time, we have been made to believe the delay has been due to computer systems being offline for 3days which coincided with the actual applications being submitted in South Africa, this has affected when the VISAs would be issued.

They also advise DJ Professor's fans that the gig has been postponed and not cancelled "Please be advised the gig is not cancelled but has been postponed. We are currently working with Professor and his management for a suited alternative date," said the statement.

The multiple award-winning singer, ruling the charts with hits such as Jezebel, Jimaphi and Imoto, was supposed to make his first solo tour after a 2007 excursion as a duo with T Zozo.

The Durban-based rhymester has featured in past hits for other artists including Spikiri (Current), Trompies (Trompies for Sale) and Oskido (Oskido I Believe) – but even he could not have professed the barnstorming success of his debut album, University of Kalawa, which was released last year to rave reviews.

Professor has gone on to win every award he was nominated for – sweeping the boards at this year's South African Music Awards (SAMA) where he bagged Artist of the Year, Best Kwaito and Song of the Year gongs.

This weekend he was supposed to arrive for dates in Birmingham (Friday) and London (Saturday) to emphasise an unbelievable year.

He is supported on the tour by his young brothers DJ Mngane and Character.

The latter releases his debut album later this month.

Professor is the most sought-after artist in South Africa at the moment.
