Johannesburg - The ANC 's national disciplinary committee of appeals on Tuesday evening confirmed Julius Malema's expulsion from the party.
"In respect of the present disciplinary hearing, the [ANC National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal] NDCA confirms the sanction imposed by the NDC [National Disciplinary Committee] that the appellant be expelled from the ANC," it found.
The sanction was imposed on Malema in November for sowing division in the party and for bringing it into disrepute.
He was found to have done so by unfavourably comparing the leadership style of President Jacob Zuma to that of former president Thabo Mbeki, and for remarks on bringing about regime change in Botswana.
The NDCA ruling also means that Malema is, with immediate effect, no longer president of the ANC Youth League.
The NDCA also dismissed the appeal by ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, but rejected increasing his suspension from the ANC to five years, instead confirming it for three years.
The NDCA further rejected the appeal by ANCYL secretary general Sindiso Magaqa.
"The appellant's ANC membership is suspended for a period of one year, which shall come into operation with immediate effect," it said.
