Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League has vowed to stop at nothing to have expelled leader Julius Malema, suspended secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and spokesperson Floyd Shivambu reinstated.

"The leaders of the ANCYL should be reinstated," national working committee member Abner Mosase said in Johannesburg on Monday.

"If they [the ANC] do not reinstate them, we will not stop trying. We will continue using all our available internal mechanisms.

"Every time they [the ANC] meet, we will be on their backs persuading them to listen to this logic."

The ANCYL was briefing reporters after its two day national executive committee (NEC) meeting at the weekend.

Undermine ANCYL's autonomy

Deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi said the league was calling on the ANC's leaders to intervene in the national disciplinary committee of appeal's decision to expel Malema and suspend Magaqa and Shivambu.

"The observations made by the NDCA undermine the autonomy of the ANCYL," said Mosenogi.

"[We] demand immediate reinstatement of our leaders.... We reaffirm they remain our leaders.

"The NEC... calls on the leadership of the ANC to decisively intervene and provide a political solution. We will continue to challenge the outcomes internally in the ANC until the national conference in December."

Asked if the ANCYL thought the ANC would listen, Mosase said it was confident that "supreme logic and content" would prevail.

Mosenogi said the ANCYL was confident that ANC leaders would reinstate Malema, Magaqa and Shivambu.

"We are relying on the constitution of the ANC to resolve the matter," she said.

Remain disciplined members

ANCYL deputy president Ronald Lamola said the league was still in touch with Malema and that he, Magaqa and Shivambu remained disciplined members and supporters of the ANC.

"No one is defining themselves outside of the ANC. Nothing stops us from talking to these comrades."

The ANCYL said Malema was respecting the NDCA's decision and was not attending any ANCYL meetings, but remained their leader.

Mosenogi confirmed that the ANCYL's treasurer general Pule Mabe had been removed from his position.

"The NEC had lost confidence in the treasurer general. As such, the NEC resolved to release the TG, Pule Mabe, from his duties... with immediate effect."

Mosenogi said Mabe had not been suspended from the ANCYL, but was no longer the treasurer general, or a member of the NEC. She said the reasons for stripping Mabe of his title would be presented at the league's national general council soon.
