Two Chitungwiza women were nabbed in Mvurwi Mashonaland Central province for conning a Mvurwi woman of her husband's bank card and purchased groceries with it yesterday (Wednesday).
It is alleged Emmaculate Nyamadzawo (34) and her cousin sister Mollen Makanze (35) conned a Barock farm based Bridget Nyangwaru of her husband's bankcard and purchased groceries worth US$61, 40.
The women are said to have duped Nyangwaru by throwing a plastic full of fake Zimbabwean bearer cheques in front of her before inviting her to join them into counting the money. Ngangwaru was ordered to surrender her hand bag to one woman who quickly disappeared after receiving the bag.
In the bag was the bank card wrapped with a paper that had the secret number of the owner. The duped woman said she realised the trick later but thanked the citizens for helping her apprehend the thieves before surrendering them to Mvurwi police station.
"These two women tricked me into believing that we had picked money and we would share after counting the money unfortunately l had been sent by husband to withdraw his wage I had wrapped the bankcard with a paper that had a pin number written by my husband."
A drama was seen at Suoguru bus terminus when the two women were about to board kombis back to Harare but were identified by Nyangwaru who shouted for help in arresting the thieves.
Vendors and council workers implemented a citizen arrest on the two before they were surrendered to Mvurwi police.
Many women are now living desperately in Zimbabwe since most of them have resorted in begging with kids in most parts of major cities like Harare Masvingo, Mutare and Bulawayo.
