A STUDENT at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) was on Friday found dead at his lodgings in Bulawayo in what is suspected to be a suicide case.

The fifth-year student, identified as Tapfuma Sezi, who was studying chemical engineering, was reportedly found foaming in the mouth and gasping for air, before he died. His relatives suspect he committed suicide.

"On Thursday late at night we heard that he was at Palace bar, where he was drinking and shouting at people and when we went looking for him we could not find him," a friend said.

"We proceeded to the house where he lodges near Nust and found him foaming and gasping for his last breath."

But yesterday, his sister, who declined to be named, said a post mortem report showed that he suffered from a heart problem, which might have resulted in his death.

"The post mortem revealed that Sezi had a heart problem, which caused his death and he never drank poison" she said.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said they were yet to confirm the incident.

"We have not received any report, I am yet to confirm the incident," he said.

Recently a third-year electrical engineering student at the University of Zimbabwe reportedly recorded on video how his estate should be distributed, demanded that his body be cremated and sent messages to his friend announcing his death before committing suicide.

Last week a Midlands State University student allegedly committed suicide by drinking a poisonous substance in front of the institution's administration block in Gweru.
