A 26-YEAR-OLD man allegedly had transactional sex with his neighbour's 13-year-old daughter.
Misheck Ngwenya, 26, of Bulawayo's Cowdray park suburb allegedly offered the girl an undisclosed amount of money in return for sex.
Ngwenya appeared before Provincial magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing a rape charge.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to March 7. In his first appearance in court last week Saturday, Ngwenya said he was not aware that the girl was under age.
"I wasn't aware of the girl's age. I didn't have time to ask for her age. I had sex with her and I used protection," said Ngwenya.
Prosecuting, Stewart Madzore told the court that on February 18, Ngwenya went to the girl's house and found her alone.
"The accused asked the complainant to engage in sex with him while they were inside the house.
"The complainant agreed to engage in sex with the accused on condition that he was going to pay her some money," said Madzore.
The prosecutor said the Ngwenya had sex with the girl once and left without paying.
The matter came to light when the girl told her aunt about what had transpired between her and Ngwenya.
The prosecutor said the aunt told the girl's mother, who then reported the matter to the police.
Madzore told the court the girl was referred to hospital for a medical examination.
