Death at church service

Renowned and well-respected educationist, Locadia Mutubuki (67) has died.

Mutubuki who retired from Government service in 2014 died after suffering a heart attack at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Gweru where she had gone to attend a church service on Thursday evening.

Edias Mutubuki, her husband confirmed the death to The Mirror. She will be burried in Gweru today (Thursday May 25, 2017)

"My wife passed away on Thursday night after suffering an acute cardiovascular attack. The attack was caused by a blood clot that caused a heart blockage and this is according to the doctors.

"This happened just before she attended Mass at the Cathedral. She started vomiting and was taken to Gweru General Hospital where she was attended to by two doctors for four and half hours but she could not make it. I was there at the hospital for the whole part and l saw the doctors trying their best to assist her but to no avail," said Mutubuki.

Mutubuki died at a time when she was doing a lot of important development work for the education system in Gweru.

"My wife was doing important projects for the education sector and in particular for the girl child whom she believed was disadvantaged.

"She had started a private girls' boarding house for Fletcher High School and a Private Girls High School was under construction and almost complete at a plot in Gweru.

"Her passing on is a great loss to the family as she was a unifier, a great mother and wife. At community level she was a well respected person because of her big vision for the community and her contribution was just immeasurable," said Mutubuki.

Born in 1949 Mutubuki attended her Primary Education in Chivhu. She did her Secondary Education at Monte Casino. She trained as a teacher at Mutare Teachers College and taught at various schools before she  joined Fletcher High in 1982, the same year that the former boys' high school started taking girls.

In 1986 Mutubuki completed a Bachelor in Education Degree at the University of Zimbabwe. She graduated with a Masters in Education with the Midlands State University in 2004.

She has left behind her husband six children and seven grandchildren. She will be buried on Thursday at her farm which is 17km from Gweru along Mvuma Road and the delay in burial is to allow four of her children who are abroad to attend her funeral.
