Mugabe promotes 8 Colonels to Brigadiers General

President Robert Mugabe has promoted eight Colonels to the rank of Brigadier General. The eight are Brigadier Generals Anselem Sanyatwe, Howard Matombo,

Ronnie Mutizhe, Evaristo Dzihwema, Thando Madzvamuse, Josphat Kudumba, Onias Masuku and Jephta Munongwa.

The Head of State and Government also promoted 15 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel and 47 Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

The promotions are with effect from February 28 this year.

Conferring the ranks to the Brigadier Generals at Army headquarters yesterday, Zimbabwe National Army Commander Lieutenant General Phillip Valerio Sibanda said the promotions were a result of hard work and dedication.

"Firstly I would like to congratulate you on becoming one star Generals, you deserve the rank because you worked for it.

"This is just the beginning and you should strive to achieve more.

"There are still more stars for you up there but I must tell you that this is not going to be an easy task," Lt Gen Sibanda  said.

Lt Gen Sibanda also said, "You managed to steer troops under your command to achieve despite the harsh economic environment currently bedeviling our nation and defence force.

"The force expects you to use your vast experience in the discharge of your duties in your new challenging ranks," he added.

Conferring the ranks on the promoted Colonels, Chief of Staff Administration at Army Headquarters, Major General Trust Mugoba said leadership is not just theory but action and attitude.

"The higher you go, the colder it becomes, you have been promoted at a time the nation and ZNA are facing various challenges chief among them the tough economy caused by sanctions.

"The army expects solutions from you.

"I also wish to congratulate the two female Colonels among you Colonels Lioba Gunduza and Tendai Makuyana.

"ZNA will continue to address gender disparities among its rank and file," Lt Gen Sibanda said.
