Chiwenga's wife injured in grenade attack

Marry Chiwenga, the wife of Zimbabwe's Vice President Constantine Chiwenga, is one of the people injured from a grenade blast at a ruling Zanu-PF party rally in Bulawayo.
Chiwenga's wife is currently in hospital receiving treatment. She had some lacerations on her face as she tried to rescue one of her aides who had shrapnel in her stomach.
Mnangagwa confirmed in a video clip that Mary, Zanu-PF party chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and another party official, Mabel Chinomona were injured.
Mnangagwa managed to escape unhurt.
Presidential spokesperson Mr George Charamba told the State Media that most of the injured people have been attended to and discharged.
"Vice President Mohadi is nursing some leg injuries but he is in good spirit," he said.
"Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri is still in a state of shock and she had some injuries around her chest. National commissar Gen Rugeje had some shrapnel in his arm but he has been attended to and discharged. Mai Chiwenga had some lacerations on her face as she tried to rescue one of her aides who had shrapnel in her stomach.
"VP Chiwenga had slight bruises on his face but he is fine. Four security personnel and some chiefs were also injured so all in all we are talking of 8 or 9 people who have been injured," said Mr Charamba
Mnangagwa's spokesperson George Charamba was quoted as saying that investigations were under way following the incident.
"In news just received Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri the Zanu-PF chairperson and political commissar Engelbert Rugeje were injured in the explosion," Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) said.
