MDC Alliance councillor in Harare Jacob Mafume has said the new MDC council will work hard to deliver to the residents but warned that council work is not an individual sport.
"In the corridors of the City of Harare. Yesterday we attended to the swearing in at council as the MDC Alliance team, in line with the vision we have as a party and as articulated by advocate Nelson Chamisa our President. The party has as its lead person His worship the Mayor, councillor Herbert Gomba not a stranger to the workings of council and ready to hit the ground running," he said.
"As he said in his opening speech the challenges are all to clear and the need to deliver for the residents cannot be understated. The team has a clear mandate and has committed itself to deliver with very few excuses. The spotlight could not have been brighter, there is no place to hide. The job is not an individual sport it is a team effort. There are no ronaldoes or Messis or super subs it is what it is .Everyone has to bring their all to the job from councillors to the residents.Any success will be collective so will any failure."
"We are not miracle workers but we promise the residents to do the best we can.I take this opportunity to congradulate Our President for having secured for us a landslide victory in Harare , A first of its kind ,in all the excitement its easy to take it for granted. In addition I congradulate my brother the Mayor a committed trusted and able cadre of the movement.I also extend the same to the Deputy Mayor Councillor Mupamawonde a calm and steady elder of the movement."
He said last but not least to the residents of Harare we are in this together to the end .
"We cannot thank you enough. We know that if we do the simple things right and we get Harare to work again we would have thanked you enough .We hope we can do more and deliver a smart and world class city," he said.
