The International Organisation for Migrants has reported that 7732 returnees' entries have been recorded at the country's four entry points.
The development comes at a time when the country has relaxed the lockdown measures.
"Between the 31st of August and the 6th of September, 7,732 entries were received through the 4 key PoEs (Beitbridge, Chirundu, Forbes and Plumtree," IOM said.
"Points of Entry (PoEs) and border communities are at the frontline of public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. Ensuring that infection prevention and control measures, risk communication and community engagement activities are in place and well-coordinated contributes to preventing the spread of the pandemic inland."
The IOM said as of the 6th of September 2021, Zimbabwe recorded 125,671 cases of COVID-19, with 117,036 recoveries and 4,493 deaths. Between the 31st of August and the 6th of September, 7,732 entries were received through the 4 key PoEs (Beitbridge, Chirundu, Forbes and Plumtree).
"There was an increase of 45% on entries compared to the previous week. 305 migrants reached with HIV information. 105 individuals were supported with Information Counselling and Referral Services (ICRS)," said IOM.
"We stand ready to provide further information as required and thank you for your continued support."
