Warrant of arrest for musician Mbeu

Popular Afro-fusion musician Ashton "Mbeu" Nyahora has been issued with a warrant of arrest, four months after being involved in a road accident in Harare that has since sparked a bitter dispute over alleged negligent driving.
The accident occurred on New Year's Day at the busy intersection of Harare Drive and Borrowdale Road. Mbeu was driving a Toyota Aqua when his vehicle collided with a Peugeot 407 driven by Patikayi Murisa.
Murisa claims that since the crash, Mbeu has largely avoided responsibility and failed to engage meaningfully in resolving the matter.
"It has been five months of hell for me because Mbeu has not been picking up my calls after he caused the accident," Murisa told reporters. "I didn't know him personally until that day, and as a celebrity, I expected him to cooperate."
Murisa said the musician only began communicating after the arrest warrant was issued. Mbeu reportedly requested a meeting at Highlands Police Station last Thursday, but Murisa remains skeptical.
"When the accident happened, Mbeu told the police he was unwell and couldn't talk. Later, he referred me to his wife, Faith Mashami, who said she was no longer with him," Murisa explained.
Screenshots shared by Murisa show Mashami telling him: "May you please contact Mbeu directly, we are no longer staying together." Despite Murisa's repeated attempts to engage with the couple, he claims he was left frustrated for months.
"I was stuck for five months trying to find him," said Murisa. "I didn't want it to come to this, but my car is still parked at home, unrepaired."
Mbeu confirmed the delays but expressed willingness to cooperate, stating: "I know the guy, I am meeting him on Thursday. We are actually talking."
The artist also shared a reflective social media post recounting the accident's impact on him personally:
"On the 1st of January 2025, just a day before my second born's birthday, I got into a horrible accident and almost lost my life. God gave me another chance; I will make it up to you, Imelah Nyahora, for your next birthday. Daddy loves you. A life for a life, and since God gave me another chance, I owe Him my life. I will rise again and even stronger! Mbeu ndini!"
The case has drawn public attention, highlighting the challenges faced by victims seeking accountability in road accidents involving public figures. The outcome of the meeting between Mbeu and Murisa is eagerly awaited by both parties.
