Zimbabwean political analyst and social advocate Abigale Mupambi has urged South Africa's Operation Dudula movement to abandon its anti-foreigner stance, arguing that such narratives have no place in a united Africa.

Her remarks follow the South African government's announcement on Tuesday that it has extended the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits, offering temporary relief to thousands of Zimbabweans living and working in South Africa.

"This is a relief to Zimbabweans in South Africa. However, the period is not long enough to guarantee sustainability," Mupambi said.

She encouraged Zimbabwean nationals to use the extension period to wind up their affairs and consider returning home to reconnect with domestic economic policies aimed at empowering indigenous citizens.

"What is of paramount importance is to use this time to come back home peacefully and plug into national development," she added.

Mupambi also emphasised the importance of economic diplomacy, noting that Zimbabwe's diaspora labour force plays a critical role in sustaining the national economy.

"It's clear government did its best despite setbacks. At policy level, we must preserve the interests of our diaspora workforce."

Turning her attention to Operation Dudula, Mupambi called for a shift in mindset.

"To Dudula groups, it's high time they realise we are just but one people. What binds us as Africans is far greater than what sets us apart. We need each other."

Her comments come amid ongoing tensions around migration and xenophobia in South Africa, with regional voices increasingly calling for unity, tolerance, and collaborative development.
