Zimbabwe's gold sector generated more than US$1.2 billion in revenue during the first four months of 2026, more than doubling earnings recorded during the same period last year as higher global prices and sustained production boosted export receipts.

Latest figures released by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe show that gold revenue reached approximately US$1.2 billion between January and April 2026, compared to about US$579 million recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.

The strongest growth was recorded across all four months under review.

In January, gold sales generated US$290 million, up from US$123 million during the same month last year.

Revenue in February rose sharply to US$278.5 million from US$117 million in 2025, representing a 138 percent year-on-year increase.

March earnings reached US$274 million, compared to US$155.3 million recorded in the corresponding period last year.

April delivered the highest monthly earnings of the year so far, with bullion sales generating about US$374 million, more than double the US$183.3 million realised in April 2025.

The strong performance highlights gold's continued role as Zimbabwe's leading export earner and a key source of foreign currency inflows. The increase has been attributed to a combination of resilient output from both large-scale and small-scale miners, as well as favourable international gold prices that have remained at elevated levels throughout the year.

The sharp rise in earnings is expected to strengthen Zimbabwe's foreign currency reserves, support economic activity and provide a boost to government revenues through taxes and royalties linked to mineral production.

With global demand for gold remaining strong amid economic uncertainty in international markets, the precious metal continues to play a central role in Zimbabwe's export sector and broader economic performance.
