David Jani Masomere, a schoolteacher who rose to national prominence as a master of ceremonies at Zanu-PF star rallies in 2023, has been dragged to court over allegations that he abandoned his teaching duties in favour of partisan political activities.

Masomere, popularly known as DJ weSADC, is a teacher at Ndarama High School, one of the largest secondary schools in Masvingo Province. He is expected to appear before the High Court in Masvingo on January 22, 2026, under case number HCMSC401/25.

The matter was initiated following a report by Harare Ward 6 councillor and prominent opposition figure Denford Ngadziore, with the involvement of the Public Service Commission. According to court papers filed by Shava Law Chambers, which is representing Ngadziore, the application will be heard physically before Justice Dude-Banda on the scheduled date.

Court documents indicate that Ngadziore is seeking an order compelling Masomere to immediately cease what he describes as conduct that advances the interests of the ruling Zanu-PF party at the expense of Masomere's duties as a civil servant.

In the application, Masomere is reminded that he is employed by the government of Zimbabwe as a teacher and therefore falls under the constitutional obligations governing members of the civil service. Ngadziore argues that despite this status, Masomere has become a regular feature at Zanu-PF events, where he allegedly serves as a master of ceremonies, chants party slogans and acts in a partisan manner.

The application cites Section 200(3)(b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which prohibits members of the civil service from furthering the interests of any political party or cause. Ngadziore contends that by publicly campaigning for Zanu-PF and canvassing votes, Masomere is in breach of this constitutional provision and is unfairly disadvantaging opposition parties, including the Citizens Coalition for Change.

The court papers further note that civil servants are often deployed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to assist in the conduct of elections, making political neutrality a constitutional imperative. On that basis, Ngadziore's lawyers have demanded that Masomere immediately stop engaging in any activities that advance the interests of Zanu-PF.

Masomere is being represented by lawyer Tatenda Nyoka.
