Convicted fraudster Mavis Java Madzivanzira is facing yet another legal storm after appearing in court on fresh charges of theft of trust property - just a day after being convicted in a US$120,000 fraud case.
Madzivanzira, who was convicted alongside her accomplice Pauline Gutsa, is expected back in court for her pre-sentencing hearing and sentencing.
In the latest allegations, Madzivanzira is accused of breaching a trust agreement with Palm Car Rental after reportedly disposing of a hired vehicle without the owner's consent.
According to the State, represented by prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah, the incident dates back to July 23 last year when Madzivanzira hired a Honda Vezel from the company, agreeing to pay US$60 per day.
The complainant, represented by company director Machel Chipara, alleges that Madzivanzira stopped making payments in January this year.
Efforts to recover the vehicle led to a shocking discovery. Chipara was reportedly informed by Madzivanzira's daughter that her mother had been remanded in custody at Chikurubi Female Prison after her bail was revoked in the earlier fraud case.
Further investigations revealed that the vehicle had been handed over to car dealer Billy Chigwaza as collateral for a loan. After Madzivanzira allegedly failed to repay the loan, the dealer sold the car to Itai Gonyora.
The vehicle was eventually recovered in Mutare last week following a police report filed in Highlands.
The case adds to Madzivanzira's growing list of legal troubles, raising serious concerns about repeated breaches of trust and alleged fraudulent conduct.
