Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) leader Martin Zharare has rejected his alleged expulsion by the organisation's board - and instead issued a counter‑letter dismissing the same board members.
In a letter dated 24 March, circulating on social media, Zharare announced the removal of deputy chairperson Ellison Muchenje, deputy secretary Sylvia Dhliwa, and committee members Wallace Matavire and Zezai James Katonje.
"The EAGM resolved to remove the following individuals from the Executive Committee… due to actions deemed to be in breach of the Citizens Against Sanctions PVO 39/2025 Constitution, including setting up illegal parallel structures and participating in an unsanctioned meeting on 7 March 2026 in Gweru," the letter reads.
However, an insider told this publication that Zharare had already been expelled by the board and therefore had no authority to dismiss anyone.
"He was the first to be fired by the board. He has been swindling people’s money and many complaints were lodged, including some at police stations. To then say he fired us is nothing short of drama," the insider said.
Efforts to obtain comment from Zharare were unsuccessful.
