Ride‑hailing platform inDrive says it has launched an internal investigation into an incident involving one of its drivers and passenger Trueman Chikukwa, following concerns raised after a story recently published on state media H-Metro.

In an official statement shared with this publication, the company said the safety and wellbeing of users remained its highest priority and that it takes reports of this nature “very seriously”.

“We are deeply concerned by the incident involving a driver and passenger, Mr Trueman Chikukwa. The safety and wellbeing of everyone who uses our platform is our highest priority, and we take reports of this nature very serious,” the company said.

inDrive confirmed that the driver’s account had been blocked while the matter is under review, adding that its team is conducting a thorough assessment, including re‑engaging both the passenger and the driver to establish the facts.

The company also said it would fully cooperate with law enforcement authorities should they require assistance.

“Should the relevant law enforcement authorities require our assistance, inDrive will cooperate fully and provide any information that may assist their investigation, in accordance with applicable laws and our privacy obligations,” the statement read.

inDrive said it remains committed to taking appropriate action once its internal investigation is complete, but noted that it would not comment further while the matter is still under review.

The incident has drawn attention to passenger safety and accountability within ride‑hailing services, an issue frequently discussed across platforms such as Zimbabwe transport safety forums.
