Tawanda Matehwe who was in a bitter row with Bikita East MP over a car he was renting to buy from the legislator collapsed and died allegedly because of the stressful court case that saw the car being withdrawn from him and auctioned.

Masvingo Mirror reported that Matehwe collapsed and died on Tuesday this week after the car for  which he was paying $55 a day for  six days and for a period of a year was withdrawn by MP Kennedy Matimba allegedly to recover $3 500 which the MP was still owed.

Matimba dismissed allegations that he was responsible for the death because of the way he treated Matehwe and insisted that Matehwe had a history of illness.

Matehwe collapsed and was rushed to Silveira Mission Hospital where he was admitted for six days before he died.

Sources said Matehwe was so stressed by the fight for the car that he would sometimes collapse.

According to a recent court report by Newsday, Matimba claimed that Matehwe owed him $3 131 while Matehwe said he had already paid $14 000 for the Toyota Ipsum (reg ABW 3922) and was therefore shocked by the MP's demands.

Toyota Ipsum vehicles currently cost in the region of $4 500.

The matter was heard by Magistrate Lyn Manyika.

"Just check his medical history, I heard he was ill for a long time. I don't think he was stressed be cause of the car. Unless if you say he was stressed by other debts. It was me who was supposed to be stressed because I actually lost out on the deal.

"He owed me $ 3 500 and I took him to court and the car was attached by the messenger of court and was sold for $ 1 500. After storage and other deductions I only got $ 600. So I can say I lost out on the deal.

"Temba Mliswa lost more than 100 cattle why didn't he die of stress vanhu vanoda kungosonanidza zvinhu zvisizvo," said Matimba.

Sources close to the matter revealed that the two started to have a misunderstandings when Matimba accused the deceased of defaulting in paying  and took him to court. Sources said that the deceased sold some of his cattle to service his loan.

It is reported that the deceased first collapsed at court and he had not been well ever since. His condition deteriorated after collapsing again and was admitted at hospital where he finally died.
