President Robert Mugabe has conferred degrees to 2358 graduands at the 14th Midlands State University (MSU) graduation ceremony.

Two of them graduated posthumously and three with doctorate degrees.

Speaking at the 14th graduation ceremony, MSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Ngwabi Bhebhe underscored the importance of science disciplines as drivers of industrial development.

He added that the university has introduced a foundation science programme in an effort to increase the number of students in science and technology who might have missed an opportunity to study science due to a number of reasons.

Professor Bhebhe also pointed out that the continued growth of the institution has made significant impact on the housing sector.

According to Gweru City Council figures, investors have injected an estimated US$100 million with more than 2000 houses having been newly constructed.

Meanwhile, among today's graduands were ZBC Matabeleland North Bureau Chief Sijabuliso Ndlovu, ZBC Crime and Courts Correspondent Kudzai Gumbo, Spot FM (SFM) Senior Current Affairs Producer Mqele Tshuma and ZBC Current Affairs Producer Oline Ndori.
