Gold panner to languish in jail for 5 yrs for just 0.9g of gold

A gold panner in Gweru, Cleopas Chinyananya would spend next 5 years in
jail for possessing JUST O.9g of gold. The gold is valued at ONLY $24.
Gweru magistrate Sithembinkosi Msipa handed the harsh sentence. It is said that on April 24,
Chinyan'anya moved around with the gold without a
licence. Acting on a tip off police pounced on him and was searched.
The gold was discovered and arrested.
The sentence come at a time when Mines minister Obert Mpofu said all jailed illegal gold panners should be freed and declared heros.
Mpofu said the term makorokoza should be banned.
