1ns and 2s with Dj-Sticha - Musician want to make music without marketing

Today I want to address a very common (yet misguided) idea I often read about all over the internet.
Working in the music industry for well over 3years, I often come across musicians who only want to make music without doing the whole marketing thing. Yet they still want a fan base and for themselves to be recognized in the music industry.
Many of them say things along the lines of:
"Marketing and promoting sounds too complex,i think I'll just make music and if it's good enough people will hear it"
My response?Unfortunately,it doesn't work like that.
Two things!
1.First of all, promoting your music doesn't have to be difficult at all.In fact, it can be quite fun!So don't worry about it being complex
2.Secondly,unfortunately making good music alone isn't enough to build up fan base and get people to notice you.If people don't hear it,how would anyone know its good?Remember, music marketing in its simplest form is the process of getting people to hear you.
Admittedly, many of us don't get into music industry thinking we'll have to market our music. We get in it because we love making music and we want to do it as much as we can. That said,if its also your aim to have other people hear it and enjoy it,you need to get your songs out to them.
This is what marketing is.
Now the funny thing is ,many people who say they only want to to make good music actually end up promoting their sounds without realizing it!
For example.
.They play gigs
.They upload their songs for their friends to hear and
.They talk about their songs to others.
While basic strategies, all of these things are them marketing their music. The above aren't hard right?
You see, like i said music marketing doesn't have to be difficult. Its simply the practice of sharing your music with others....And that's it.
Now while the above are basic music marketing strategies, there are also more complex ones which often get better results. That said, doing either of these is a step in the right direction.
If you take one thing from my findings,it should be that if you want to build up any type of fan base or recognition for your music, you need to market yourself. If you're happy to have a small fan base, basic sharing of your songs is all you need to do.If you want to push your music career as far as possible however, there are more advance music marketing strategies you can implement.
Just because they are more advanced however, that doesn't mean they're more difficult to do.In fact, many are fun and pretty straightforward.
