Bullet train for Murambinda
30 May 2018 at 14:38hrs | Views
Multiparty politics is very 'healthy' for democracy to thrive. The electorate is spoilt for choice especially where the 'menu on offer' sounds like its from the same stable.
The forthcoming harmonised elections in Zimbabwe where about a hundred political parties have thrown their hats in the ring are good for democracy. The election fever has gripped the country with every parliamentary and presidential aspirant promising heaven on earth.
Campaign T-shirts and caps are not in short supply, even the street urchins are donning them. Everyone has become very important and every vote counts. Some political leaders are even promising bullet trains and spaghetti roads leaving us wondering from which planet they come from. Who needs bullet trains when the road to Murambinda is decorated with dish-holes and gullies.
Spaghetti roads, my foot!
In our suburbs and townships tarred roads are no more. With far fetched priorities like that clean water delivery seems at the bottom of the list.
The masses want development projects, trafficable roads, well equipped hospitals and a sound education system. Also, welfare of the aged has been forgotten, most are wallowing in abject poverty with noone to turn to. Some of these political parties who make up the numbers are so small one wonders what they are there for.
Now you see them and now you don't. Command agriculture gave us bumper harvests, give the ruling party a chance for more good things to come.
