Madzvivire Primary School fee dispute reaches Boiling Point
3 hrs ago | Views
A heated meeting between parents and the administration of Madzvivire Primary School, which enrols over 2300 learners, ended in stalemate today. This follows a previous meeting last week, where no consensus was reached on a proposed fee increment.
Parents are demanding transparency regarding the school's expenditure on a water installation project. The project involved drilling a borehole and purchasing two 10,000-liter Jojo tanks. Learners were levied $5 each on top of $25 normal school fees, and an undisclosed amount, estimated to be $12,000, was raised.
However, parents claim that only two Jojo tanks and a stand are evident on the school grounds, sparking concerns about the use of funds. Parents have more questions than answers on this.
The school administration is seeking to raise fees from $25 to $35, but parents are vehemently opposed to the increase. They insist on a detailed audit and report on the expenditure of the water project before considering any fee increment.
The meeting ended in chaos, with no closing prayer or agreement reached. Parents emphasized that the school administration must not take them for granted and that a good working relationship, built on transparency and trust, is essential.
The dispute highlights the need for transparency and accountability in school financial management, as well as the importance of collaboration between school administrators and parents.
