Which moral standards does Mqondisi Moyo's MRP support Israel?

14 hrs ago | 667 Views
"Somaliland represents Africa's future. Israel remains Africa's indispensable partner." Quote Mqondisi Moyo verbatim. The shock value of this statement is not about him recognizing the existence of Somaliland. It is the abhorrence of saying Israel is Africa's indispensable partner. How many countries in Africa support Israel's current politics regarding the genocide in Gaza? It is hard to swallow this indispensable connection with Israel, imputed on us by Mqondisi. We must accept this because Mqondisi Moyo has spoken; MRP organization does not tolerate contra, allergic to criticism. You could be treated with a Winnie Mandela necklace.

The genocide taking place in Gaza is not different from the 1980 Gukurahundi genocide in Matabeleland. Mqondisi Moyo's moral lenses do not recognize similar genocide atrocities in two geo‑political spaces and time. Social media forced us to take part in the Israel–Gaza war fought on our television screens. We saw the demolition of houses and how thousands of people lost their lives. We saw mass graves, old people buried together with children and even babies.

Water services were turned off; food and medical services were restricted from entering Gaza. The UN and Red Cross agencies were not permitted to access Gaza because they were not spared from the bombings taking place. Killings are indiscriminate. To this date, Israel has violated hundreds of truce initiatives from the UN and other Arab nations seeking peace in the region.

As we speak, carnage is still taking place in Gaza. Every day Gazans lose their lives for crossing invisible red lines deliberately constructed by Israeli authorities. Hundreds and thousands of doctors, nurses, journalists, and aid agencies have lost their lives in service of humankind in Gaza. Thousands of people in Gaza—men, women—are languishing in Israeli prisons; even underaged youth are not spared from incarceration. In these prisons they are sexually assaulted, methods meant to reduce them and insult the religion Islam.

There was a prima facie case of genocide established by the ICJ in The Hague that Israel is committing genocide; hence Hamas and Israeli authorities were indicted for crimes against humanity. The Human Rights Commission set up an inquiry under the Genocide Convention to establish the extent to which genocide was committed by the military in the Gaza Strip.

Quote: The Commission concludes on reasonable grounds that the Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces have committed and are continuing to commit the following actus reus of genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

On incitement to genocide, the Commission concludes that Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then Defence Minister Yoav Gallant have incited the commission of genocide and that Israeli authorities have failed to act against them to punish them.

On the mens rea of genocide, the Commission concludes that statements made by Israeli authorities are direct evidence of genocidal intent. In addition, the Commission concludes that the pattern of conduct is circumstantial evidence of genocidal intent and that genocidal intent was the only reasonable inference that could be drawn from the totality of the evidence. Close quote.

Looking at the human‑rights evidence of genocide in Gaza, MRP's Mqondisi is comfortable supporting Israel. What makes genocide Israel better than genocide ZANU in the Gukurahundi atrocities of 1980, which made Mqondisi Moyo a casualty of genocide today? Kupururudzira nhamo serugare. There are serious morality deficits in thinking one is better than the other. If Dr Joshua Nkomo lived to read Mqondisi Moyo's article, he would have concluded these are counter‑revolutionaries, reactionaries of our time - rightly so.

His article is crafted to include the whole of Matabeleland agreeing with the recognition of Somaliland by Israel. "On behalf of the people of the Matabele nation, I extend sincere appreciation to the Government and people of the State of Israel for this courageous and constructive decision.” Where did Mqondisi Moyo get the mandate to speak on behalf of Matabeleland in a geo‑political crisis he barely understands? There is no state of Mthwakazi in Zimbabwe except in the figment of his imagination.

Millions of global citizens took to the streets and demonstrated against genocide in our time, including Jews in Israel and globally. Countries even in Europe have realized the danger of complicity with genocide activities perpetrated by the Netanyahu regime. Moyo, despite global outcry of genocide in our lifetime, finds it still befitting to sing praises supporting a regime responsible for the deaths of thousands of Gaza citizens. I wonder still how ideologically poor Mqondisi would feel if one said Gukurahundi never existed, it never occurred in the first place. He would be hurt because it is not only hurtful but deeply insulting. But this goes for the people in Gaza who depend on our support, materially and emotionally.

Mqondisi and his party MRP are devoid of any moral compass: a malcontent that openly disregards human sanctity. It is evident that he calculates with monetary incentives how much financing the party would get if they sang praises about Benjamin Netanyahu's politics in Gaza. What part of Matabeleland will Mqondisi offer Netanyahu to extradite Palestinians from Gaza—Matobo, Tshongogwe, Ntabayezinduna?

The hallmark of Israeli relationships with African countries is seeking land to expel Palestinians from Gaza and resettle them in African countries. This idea was once floated by Great Britain in 1949; they wanted to expel Jews from Europe and send them either to Uganda or South Africa. This idea is being revisited again. Egypt and Jordan have vehemently refused any resettlement of Gazans in their territories. Somaliland and the Mthwakazi Republic want to seize a golden opportunity with hefty financial incentives and accept these transactions.

Never mind if the people in the regions want it or not. If Mqondisi Moyo can speak on behalf of Matabeleland people without any mandate, what will hinder him from grabbing our land for Palestinian refugees for cash? Never mind if the Palestinians are willing to leave Gaza for Matabeleland—accept arrangements on their behalf to leave their rightful land without their consent. Just saying!

Mqondisi Moyo's MRP is sliding into a fascist organization, subtly. Their rhetoric blinds the people of Matabeleland to realizing this imminent danger. MRP is about money and good living and never about the common man in Lupane, Tsholotsho and Nkayi. They once tried to raise funding to globetrot, meeting international organizations such as the UN, ICJ, ICC, the EU, drumming for the recognition of Gukurahundi genocide. I personally queried the half a million dollars required for such an exercise that fizzled out without trace. Everything died down without fruition.

Personally, I do not support Hamas organization. The 7th October Hamas uprising, thereby killing more than a thousand innocent civilians, was one death too much. I believe in the inviolability of human dignity and respect for life. That Zionism has been "a net blessing to the African continent" through agricultural innovation, water technology, medical science, security cooperation and democratic institutional development is opportunistic language spoken by the moulds of Mqondisi Moyo's MRP seeking cashflows without sweating for it.

African attention must go to Sudan and South Sudan. What has become of these countries? How are they going to recover? The conflict is not spoken about but takes place silently. Crises that get relevance and publicity are Ukraine, the Middle East, Venezuela and Greenland. Global media coverage is mostly concentrated on these regions. Yet about 10 million people are internally displaced in Sudan and South Sudan. Thousands of women are raped daily. Children are not going to school. Healthcare facilities are not functioning, no immunization of newly born children. It is chaotic to say the least.

In Matabeleland, there are serious food insecurities. Mqondisi's MRP has never tried to empower partisans in villages. If you cannot show success at village level, assist them in agriculture and make basic availability of water and sanitation, what politics on the ground are they talking about? MRP politics and activism are not for the present but for the future - far from realistic and tangible goals. I ask the people of Matabeleland to be vigilant about MRP as a formidable party for this region: it has hallmarks of fascism. Just saying.
