Mujuru's reversal of black empowerment unwelcome

10 Sep 2015 at 13:29hrs | Views
Reading the former Vice President, Dr Joyce Mujuru's manifesto called  Blueprint to Unlock Investment and Leverage for Development(BUILD) which was unveiled in the private media recently leaves one with more questions than others. The former Vice President has shown the Zimbabweans that she is no longer supporting the ideals of the armed struggle which she fought vigorously alongside her departed husband and those who sacrificed their lives for the independence of this country.

Dr Mujuru's manifesto which seeks among other things to review the allocation of the land reform  program  and give it to "anyone who calls Zimbabwe home," as well as to review the indigenization law shows that she is no longer a revolutionary par excellence who used to be respected by all Zimbabweans. Mai Mujuru as she is affectionately known by her supporters wants to reverse whatever she planned and also participated in when she was the second in charge of both the ruling party ZANU PF and government.

Her manifesto is ant-black indigenous people as it seeks to undo whatever the ruling party sought to fulfill when it waged the armed struggle. It is surprising and amazing that the former Vice President could stoop so low to that extent of boldly coming up with a document that goes against everything that which she used to support when she was both in government and the ruling party, ZANU PF. Actually Mai Mujuru has shown the world that she cannot be trusted because she only supports what suits her on that particular time and then opposes it at a later stage.

Actually, Mai Mujuru's BUILD statement is a neo-liberal ideological document premised on promoting free market policies for building a middle class and promoting capital on her social base making the poor remain as they are. So such a document which calls for the upliftment of the middle class leaving behind those poor to remain like that cannot be said to be a savior on the part of the electorate. Her manifesto actually is not for the poor Zimbabweans but it is for those calling the shots in the western countries that used the fund the survival of the MDC-T.

People should also understand that, the fact that Mujuru is now going against what she used to support, only cement that her ninety-eight percent (98%) disability claim which she made during the war victims compensation exercise, showed that she is someone who is greedy and always seeking to satisfy her needs at any given cost. Her 98% disability claim surprised a lot of people because she was not disabled to that extent but only looted that war victims' compensation fund using her powerful position in both the ruling party and government.  Today people should wonder whether such a person who only wants to satisfy herself with whatever available without thinking of the need's plight is good enough to be a successful leader.

Mai Mujuru's behaviour has shown that she cannot be a good leader because she manipulated those who said that she was 98% disabled when she knew that she was fit as a fiddle. Her behaviour of looting the war victims' compensation fund using her political position when she knew quite well that she was not disabled should surprise everyone who thinks that her manifesto could be a savior. If she managed to coerce those who were vetting the victims of the armed struggle to award her that percentage, what would stop her to loot more state coffers when she would be the first citizen of this country?

Actually, people should be surprised that someone who sacrificed his/her time fighting the brutality of the whites people would suddenly come up with a manifesto which is in favour of those whom he/she fought against ignoring the plight of the indigenous people who she fought for their freedom. Why is it that the manifesto dwells more on the international best practices that had nothing to do with the plight of the Zimbabwean people instead of seeking looking at ways that could empower some indigenous people? Mai Mujuru is forgetting that any leader who wants to become the first citizen of this country should look at the plight of the indigenous people so that they trust him/her with their votes.

It is naïve for Mai Mujuru to go against empowerment programs through her manifesto yet the world over the empowerment of the indigenous people is what makes a leader to be respected and exalted by his/her subjects. Clamouring for international recognition ignoring indigenous recognition is receipt for self character assassination. So Mai Mujuru is calling for her self's character assassination by ignoring the needs of indigenous people and going for international recognition through her manifesto which has already been welcomed by cheers and ululation by the already known sellouts of this country.
