Subject: Genuine Concern

I am a student in Part I here at NUST. I am disheartened to note that most of our lecturers are teaching/lecturing us in vernacular (most notably Shona) and frankly my shona is bad.

I have observed that most of the time I leave the class without fully grasping the concepts that would have been presented because of the language barrier.

Furthermore, how are we expected to improve our proficiency in our different areas/disciplines of study if most of the concepts are being expressed in vernacular and some of us do not understand it.

I hope my comments wont be taken as being tribal, rather I am asking the University to inform our lecturers that the mode of instruction is English and not a mix mash of languages.

I also hope that I wont be victimized for my comments.

I thank you
