Empandeni standards dropping

EDITOR,
If what is happening at one of the country's once revered schools, Empandeni Girls High in Matabeleland South, is anything to go by then pupils and their parents are in a for a rude awakening.
On Saturday June 6,2015 was visiting day and as parents we found ourselves caucusing after realising that our daughters' school work is going down.
When we went to the classrooms to look at the girls' books we were shocked that the pupils are not being given adequate work by the teachers.
As for the Ndebele Form Three classes taught by (name given) they have not done any written work since schools opened this term. Here I am talking about answering a comprehension passage, language exercises, compositions, poetry and we were told that this teacher was also teaching the wrong syllabus during the first term with regards to the novels to be examined next year.
For the other subjects the books that we went through we found that a majority of pupils were getting zeroes especially in Mathematics and one wonders where is the input of the teacher if we are to say the pupils are poor in that particular subject.
A teacher who has done his work cannot record zeroes from his pupils no matter how poor the pupil is in that particular subject. We also noticed that teachers do not even bother to mark notes and the few that are giving the pupils work they do so without marking corrections.
Such behaviour is an exhibition of lack of supervision on the part of the school authorities starting with the head, Sister Kanaka, the DEO for Mangwe, Mr Mpofu and the provincial education director herself, Thumisang Thabela.
No wonder Empandeni's best Ordinary level pupil in last year's November examinations got only five As while rural schools had pupils scoring as much as eight As.
The school is really missing the leadership skills of Sister Masimati, the former head.
May the responsible authorities go and do a thorough audit of what is happening at the school, which has a rich legacy.
Remember His Excellency President Mugabe once taught there and left a rich legacy. Please save the pupils and the toiling parents from this cartel of pseudo educationists, who are sabotaging the future of the girl child.
