MTN hit by massive data network outage

South African mobile network MTN has suffered network disruptions on Thursday that impacted the company's internet services.
Complaints of MTN's disrupted data services flooded social media websites such as Twitter on Thursday.
Recent reports mostly originate from: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Midrand, Centurion, Boksburg, Bloemfontein, and Kempton Park.
MTN sent out a statement saying, "We are currently experiencing major outage at new Doornfontein and Randburg data centres
"Affecting VPN, APN, all connectivity to branches and external facing sites.
"The incident is receiving our highest attention and we are working towards restoring services," said the statement.
It is not clear at to when the data network problems started.
When we called the MTN call centre a call centre agent confirmed that their network is down and they are not sure of what is happening and when it will be fixed. She also alleged that all networks including Vodacom and Cell C have been impacted which we did not verify.
