The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is gearing itself to mark the workers day celebrations across its  regional centres across the country amid outcry by workers that they have nothing to celebrate as they continue to lose jobs and go for months to years without pay.

The workers are saying the have nothing to celebrate but the day is now meant for them to make their concerns and complaints heard.

ZCTU secreatry general Japhet Moyo said ZCTU would join the rest of the world in commemorating the Workers Day on the 1st of May 2015.

"Many journalist are asking me whether there is anything to celebrate when workers are facing such daunting challenges?' he said.

"My first reaction was to correct the preposition that it is a celebration day , when actually it is a commemoration day. Therefore the Day is going to be commemorated internationally even if Zimbabwe turns its workers into slaves."

He said as long as ZCTU remain registered as a labour Centre , it  will commemorate this day even if it means doing that underneath a tree.
"The number of people coming to your birthday do not matter as long you are able to reflect on your past and look forward to your future," he said. "People do not stop commemorating their birthday because they are going through challenges , is it? "

This year's May day comes at a time when some workers like those of National Railways of Zimbabwe have gone for more than ten months without pay while Marvo Stationary workers claim to have gone for 28 months without pay.
