Preparations for the 2016 edition of the Jameson Victoria Falls Carnival to be held at the end of December in Victoria Falls have kicked off with optimism that the previous year`s record arrival of 6000 tourists will be surpassed.

The annual event marks the end of each year and takes the revellers into the new one.

This year`s event begins on the 29th of December with activities which include water rafting lined up for both Victoria Falls and Livingstone on the Zambian side.

More than 7000 people from the region and beyond are expected to attend.

Three trains with a capacity for 600 passengers each have been arranged for a train party which will begin from 1600 hours on the 30th of December.

A bush party will also be held later on the same day at Jafuta before the revellers are treated to a night of entertainment by local and South African musicians on the 31st of December.

"At this stage, we can confirm that Lochinvar and Bongo band from South Africa will perform and we have got a whole range of disk jockeys and other bands whose names we will be slowly releasing including local artists," said Mr Brant Williamson, the event's organising team representative.

Meanwhile, regional bookings for accommodation and other activities that will be taking place during the event have also risen.

The Jameson Victoria Falls Carnival generates huge revenue for the tourism sector and provides a platform for the government to showcase the country as a safe tourist destination.
