SOUTH AFRICA's multi-award-winning musician Nkosinathi Maphumulo, aka Black Coffee, is set to stage a debut show "The Global Soil Experience", at a Bulawayo club next week on Saturday.
The show is slated for Horizon Bar and Restaurant. The internationally-renowned DJ was initially pencilled to entertain Bulawayo fans in December last year, but he inexplicably failed to turn-up for an event at the same venue dubbed the "All-black party".
Speaking to Southern Eye Lifestyle, one of the organisers of the show, Mduduzi Mdlongwa of 3D Events, confirmed Black Coffee's date with Bulawayo on May 3.
"I was not pleased myself when we were informed late that he was no longer coming last year, but what I just want to see is him coming and performing. It is a great relief for me," Mdlongwa said.
The event would include braai, pool party, photo-shoots and a press conference with the South African DJ.
Black Coffee has become a household name in the South African DJ scene and he is arguably one of the most influential musicians in Africa.
He began his career back in 1994 and has released four albums and one live DVD under his Johannesburg-based record label Soulistic Music.
In 2005 he launched his career with a remix of Hugh Masekela's 1972 hit Stimela and in the same year released a self-titled debut album. The album featured collaborations with the likes of Thandiswa Mazwai, Hugh Masekela and the late Busi Mhlongo, among a few artistes.
Black Coffee was well received in the Sadc region and got enough airplay to win an award for the best Urban dance album at the 2006 MTN SAMA.
He scooped two awards in the categories best urban dance album and best male artiste at the Sama 2010 and later in the same year he won the best produced album and best dance album at the Metro Fm music awards and Channel O's most talented male music video of the year.
On his third album Home Brewed, the artiste featured some of South Africa's favourite musicians such as Ringo Madlingozi, Zonke, Hugh Masekela, Zakes Bantwini and others.
