Street hustlers and vendors are encouraged to 'Mhanya'
10 Jan 2017 at 15:54hrs | Views
Mhanya (Gijima in Ndebele) is the title to talented Harare rapper T1 Wema1's latest hip hop song. The celebrated two time Zim Hip Hop Awards (ZHHA) nominee roped in ZHHA 2015 Edition Best Newcomer, Bulawayo rapper Guluva Se7en to deliver one of the best hustlers' anthem of our time.
The title Mhanya is a clever play on words revolving around how the term translates to the words 'run' and 'hustle' alike. True to form, the song expresses how street hustlers wage running battles with the local authorities as they struggle to sell their wares. T1 Wema1 and Guluva Se7en convey this message in the vernacular Shona and Ndebele languages using skillful wordplay, metaphors and mind-blowing rhymes.
T1 Wema1 is a versatile rapper who hails from the ghetto parts of Harare and enjoys a notable street, online and radio presence on the Zimbabwean entertainment scene. His 2015 debut album titled Inzwa included hot radio singles such as Chaka Kala, We On, Anochera Ngoda and Mangwana. His music video for Mangwana consistently featured on the DSTV Zambezi Magic Top Ten chart for 8 weeks and was on the number 1 spot for 2 weeks. T1 Wema1 aims to simultaneously entertain and educate with relatable and realistic lyricism in his music.
