Youthful Durban duo Distruction Boyz will on Saturday get a chance to test their popularity in the City of Kings where their song Omunye has over the last couple of weeks emerged as the early frontrunner to become the Bulawayo go-to anthem during the party days of December.

The gqom luminaries will perform at Club Connect on Saturday night.

However, like their counter Zodwa Wabantu, the Durban duo is being trailed by controversy after it was reported earlier this week that their song had been banned on some SABC stations because of perceived vulgar content.

Despite the group's management insisting that the song's lyrics were clean, some stations south of the Limpopo have reportedly removed it from their playlists.

"If a song is not the right fit for the station it will not be selected and the SABC has no part in this process. However, we have stated that if a song is inappropriate or vulgar we will not play it out of principle. Like other songs, a radio edit will then need to be submitted," said SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.

In Bulawayo, where the group recently got a rousing reception at Club Connect and thanked fans by blowing out the speakers, they are likely to be welcomed with open arms.

"They've got the most popular song currently and something would be amiss if we didn't bring them. Omunye is certainly not banned at Club Connect and after what they did when they visited Bulawayo last time, I expect another heart-stopping gig," said Club Connect proprietor Biggie Chinoperekwei.
