Mukanya's SA show flops

Thomas Mapfumo's show at Musina Showgrounds in South Africa was a monumental flop after a few fans turned up for the gig.
The gigantic venue echoed all night as the Chimurenga music guru performed before a handful of fans that braved the chilly and wintry night to witness the show.
Show organisers apparently targeted the musician's fans in Zimbabwe by bringing him closer to home but it seemed only a handful of fans crossed the border for the show.
Most of the fans that attended the show were from Musina and the show was a far cry from what the organisers had anticipated.
Although the other two shows of the musician's South African tour in Cape Town and Johannesburg were reportedly well-attended, the Musina gig was a flop.
The musician thanked the few fans that turned up for the show, telling them he was aware of what was happening back home and would stage a show in the country in September.
"Kure kwemeso nzeve dzinonzwa. We know many people are waiting for us at home and we promise them a great experience in September when we come home.
"There are some respected people here that came so that we arrange the homecoming show. I miss home and it would be a great return when we visit Zimbabwe," said Mukanya.
The musician shared the stage with Jah Prayzah at all shows.
South Africa's Uhuru crew that was billed to perform at the show did not turn up and organisers said they dropped the group from the line-up at the last minute.
Jah Prayzah was the first on stage and he played most of his hits and kept the audience on their feet throughout his performance.
He warmed the stage for Mukanya, who did well to take people down memory lane with his yesteryear hits.
The musician said he was happy to reunite with his fans after a long time and thanked his followers for their support.
Mukanya brought his two daughters Chiedza and Matinyaya to the show and met some of his relatives, including his sister, before the show.
The peak of the show came when Jah Prayzah joined Mukanya on stage for the song "Nyoka Musango". The musicians put up a splendid act.
However, some music fans from Musina that attended the show said the low turn-out was because R250 entry fee was too high.
"People here are not used to such figures. If they had made it R100 or R50 people would have come. The show was expensive," said a Musina fan who only identified herself as Martha.
