UPCOMING Penhalonga-based 35-year-old mbira artiste, popularly known as Maka-B last week released his first album, Maka-B Shoma.
Manica Post reported that the six-track album was recorded at Newtown Records in Mutare and was produced by Croby. The new album has songs like Gogogoi Pano. In this song, Maka-B introduces himself to the music industry and seeks the hands of experienced artistes to help him grow bigger. The other five songs are Everburning Fire, Bopoto, Jongwe Rarira, Hwehwerere and Ngoma Yapera.
Maka-B said he started singing at a tender age of 14 and has been performing at several functions around Manicaland since 2012.
"I was told that when I was young I used to display a passion for music. I used to love mbira more than any other music instruments. I was part of the mbira group when I was in secondary school in Gokwe. I challenged seniors at school during parents and prize giving days and my performance would leave a lot of people in shock. I ended up being the captain of the mbira group at school," he said.
"I used to perform at different functions in Mutare since 2012. I was also greatly inspired by Jah Prayzah, Mbira Dzenharira and the late Mbuya Madhuve among other artistes in Zimbabwe. I desire to be like them in the next five years, but all I seek is help and sponsorship in my projects. I did the first album alone, but now I have managed to buy more instruments and I need people to join me," said the talented artiste.
Maka-B said his music was being appreciated by many around the city.
"People are appreciating my music and I know I will have more fans if it continues getting airplay, starting with Diamond FM. I also chose not to imitate anyone," he said.
