HARARE - Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerayi Moyo has claimed that Zimbabwe now boasts the highest number of schools per capita in Southern Africa, a development he says has drastically reduced the distances children walk to access education.
Posting on his X account, Moyo said that not long ago, children in areas such as Muzarabani were walking up to five kilometres to reach the nearest school.
"Today, I am proud to say that Zimbabwe now boasts the highest number of schools per capita in Southern Africa - no other country comes close. This is not just a statistic; it's a testament to our unwavering commitment to education as a fundamental right," Moyo said.
He cited Sanya Primary School in Muzarabani as an example, noting that it had been transformed into a modern learning centre through support from Delta Corporation Zimbabwe.
"This is what public-private partnership looks like in action - delivering real impact where it matters most," he added.
Moyo said that under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, government has built a record number of schools across the country, many equipped with science laboratories and digital classrooms.
He emphasised that the Second Republic is preparing learners for a competitive future.
"This is the Second Republic in action - delivering development that leaves no child behind," Moyo said.
