Woman accidentally shot and killed after hugging police officer

A US woman was killed after she hugged an off-duty police officer and his gun accidentally discharged.

The weapon fired when the woman embraced the police officer from behind while they were dancing at a party in the northern city of Detroit, Michigan, the Detroit Free Press quoted the police department as saying.

The woman died later in hospital.

Police were investigating the incident but said it appeared to be accidental, the newspaper said.
