All pupils from ECD to A-Level will now be mandated to have smartphones, tablets and laptops for learning purposes.
This is part of the new education curriculum that is being implemented.
According to reports, parents are expected to play a major role in providing the gadgets.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education public relations officer Patrick Zumbo said the gadgets would be strictly monitored to avoid abuse.
"It's true that pupils will be required to use the gadgets.
" It will depend on resource availability in schools as they should ensure that children have access to the gadgets" Zumbo is quoted saying.
He said it is the obligation of both parents and schools to support pupils in getting the required gadgets.
He said social media platforms would be jammed in schools.
Several pupils have been caught watching indecent materials during lessons.
However, there are fears that allowing the use of smartphones in schools will only increase the technology inequality as most schools in rural areas don't have internet access
