Traffic cop nabbed for demanding $10 from undercover detectives

A corrupt traffic cop based in Bulawayo's Traffic West station has been nabbed for demanding a $10 bribe from undercover detectives.
Stanley Murahwa ( 33) appeared before magistrate Victor Mpofu on Monday and remanded out of custody on a $50 bail to March 19.
Last Friday police in Bulawayo carried out a sting operation on traffic cops.
Traffic police officers are now routinely demanding bribes from motorists and a no longer accepting bribes of less than $5 and at times were demanding as high as $15 per vehicle.
Three detectives, where stopped by Murahwa and he demanded the driver to produce a drivers licenses and vehicle registration book.
The detective failed to produce the licence and registration book.
The court heard that Murahwa then told the undercover detectives to give him $10 before he could let them go.
Murahwa was not aware that he had stopped undercover detectives who later on handed him the cash.
However, before Murahwa could hide the money the detectives called him back and flash their identities, shocking Murahwa.
He was arrested on the spot.
