Secretary General for MDC Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga has attacked the Queen of England for being silent when more than 20 000 were killed during the bloody Gukurahundi era but was quick to voice out when Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was beaten up by Zanu-PF.
Misihairabwi-Mushonga said this explains why people of Matabeleland who are mostly Ndebele, Venda, Sotho and Tonga speaking are poor and are lowly regarded.
"You are poor and it's the painful truth but it has to be said. Tribalism is the root cause of this poverty here.
"When Gukurahundi came and killed many people here, the Queen (of England) was quiet because it was Ndebele people who were killed.
"But when Tsvangirai, a Shona was beaten up ending with a swollen big head the whites went mad because a Shona was beaten.
"They say a Ndebele blood is less important than a Shona one," she said amid applause from the crowd in Ntepe in Gwanda.
Misihairabwi-Mushonga, who is also Minister of Regional Integration and International Co-operation said government is dragging its feet in releasing part of its Distressed and Marginalised Areas Fund (Dimaf) $20 million contribution.
She said last year, government released $57 million to procure maize but little came to Matabeleland.
"$1,5 million and another $1 million was released for Tsvagirai to buy or build a house. Whether he stole it am not concerned but he was given $2,5million."
"All 210 members of parliament were given $50 000 as Constituency Development Funds. So when government want to release funds to a certain area it does not hesitate.
"But to release just $20 million as its contribution to DIMAF for Bulawayo firms is a struggle and to me its tribalism. They have told themselves that Ndebele's should not get anything."
