Bulawayo mayor Thaba Moyo yesterday said the updgrading of the Basch Street terminus to service regional routes was part of broader plans to mordenise the city.
Council last week invited tenders to refurbish the terminus, "into an ultra modern public transport hub for the southern African region and local commuter transport â€" cum commercial complex."
The terminus commonly known as Egodini is currently used by inner city commuter operators.
"We want to have a well planned and structured city which is why we want to formalise all travel operations," Moyo said.
"Although we are not sure whether buses will be moved, we are trying our best to make sure the city is in order and we will be moving the buses if there is a need.
"We want all the activities to generate income and order in the city."
The local authority said the scope of the project was to incorporate shopping facilities as well as creating development that blends with the Lobengula Street Mall.
