Police have released the names of five people who died in a road accident on Saturday morning in the Matizha area of Gutu.
The accident occurred after an Inter Africa bus had a head-on collision with a Honda Stream vehicle, while overtaking a Mandaza bus.
The horror crash occurred at the 54km peg along the Chivhu-Roy Road around 7am.
The deceased are family members Francis Chagweda (33) from Manyame Park, Viola Chagweda (35), Lloyd Chagweda (31), Mavis Chagweda (61), all from Epworth, and Keresia Mapaona (28), also from Epworth.
The two people who were injured are admitted at Gutu Hospital where they are said to be in a critical condition.
All the deceased and injured were in the Honda Stream vehicle.
Last week alone, six people died while 15 others were injured in two separate accidents that occurred on Monday and Tuesday.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed concern over the surge in fatal road traffic accidents on the country's major highways "due to speeding and overtaking errors".
