The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has declared Sengezo Tshabangu's actions as unlawful and has urged Parliament to dismiss them.
Tshabangu, self-identifying as the interim secretary general of the CCC, has sent a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), submitting a list of individuals he claims are authorized to countersign documents for the party's endorsed candidates in the upcoming by-elections.
Tshabangu's recall of 15 CCC Members of Parliament, nine senators, and 17 councillors triggered a new round of by-elections just two months after the general elections. These by-elections are scheduled for December 9.
In response to these developments, the opposition party has asserted that Tshabangu lacks authorization to act on the party's behalf, and his activities are considered unlawful.
"As we have previously stated, Tshabangu's actions constitute an ongoing breach of the law, and as such, we strongly advise the Speaker of Parliament to disregard Tshabangu and all his undertakings, as they do not align with the CCC's official stance," remarked Promise Mkhwananzi, the CCC's spokesperson based overseas.
Mkhwananzi went on to say that the CCC will designate its own individuals who will be responsible for endorsing candidates and that they will communicate this information in due time.
"The specific issue of who will sign the documents is not the main concern; the key point is that Tshabangu is not authorized to carry out this function. We have individuals who were duly responsible for endorsing our candidates in the elections, and we will provide details in the appropriate timeframe," he explained.
