The Chinhoyi community is grappling with the recent tragedy of a 35-year-old man who was fatally stabbed by his younger brother in a dispute over a T-shirt.
According to police reports, Trevor Kapungu (27) was apprehended on Sunday following the deadly incident where he allegedly stabbed his brother, Tonderai (35), during a heated argument over the accusation that Tonderai had worn and dirtied Trevor's T-shirt.
The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Trevor used a kitchen knife to stab his brother. This resulted in Tonderai sustaining a severe wound on his back, just below the left armpit, leading to profuse bleeding.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly confined his injured brother inside the house. However, Tonderai managed to escape through a window and sought assistance from neighbors. Sources indicated that Tonderai was subsequently rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries approximately two hours later, presumably due to excessive bleeding.
On Tuesday, Trevor appeared before the Chinhoyi Court Complex, facing a murder charge. He was remanded in custody until December 28, 2023. Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga advised the accused to seek bail at the High Court.
During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Brighton Machekera argued against granting bail to Trevor, citing concerns that he may be a flight risk, given the gravity of the charge he faces, which carries the potential for capital punishment.
