Former Zanu-PF youth leader Kudzanai Chipanga has been elevated to another influential position within the ruling party's structures, aligning with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's 2030 vision.
Last week, Chipanga was elected vice-chairperson of the Zanu-PF Makoni District Co-ordination Committee (DCC) in Rusape. This follows his recent election as secretary for local government, where he secured 19 out of 22 votes.
Despite supporters wanting Chipanga to be the DCC chairperson, he nominated Phineas Koro, a war veteran who was acting in the role, as the substantive leader. Chipanga's decision was seen as demonstrating a lack of greed for positions and a belief in contributing from any role.
Makoni is a significant district in Manicaland province, crucial in Zimbabwean politics, and home to notable Zanu-PF figures such as Didymus Mutasa, Joseph Made, Mandiitawepi Chimene, and Patrick Chinamasa.
Chipanga's return to prominence comes after being dismissed from the party in 2017 amid factional conflicts and his alignment with the G40 cabal. He was readmitted to Zanu-PF recently, marking his resurgence in the party.
Chipanga is known for organizing the one-million-man march in 2016 to show solidarity with former President Robert Mugabe.
