TTI Boss Lizwe Mabuza: The Philanthropic Visionary Driving Bulawayo's Social Responsibility Agenda

In an era where corporate social responsibility (CSR) is often reduced to buzzwords and token gestures, one man stands as a testament to genuine commitment towards community upliftment. Lizwe Mabuza, the Chairman of Tendy Three Investments (TTI), has emerged as the darling of Bulawayo, championing the cause of youth empowerment and broader community development across the Matabeleland region.
A Trailblazer in Employment Creation
When Tendy Three Investments was awarded the contract to implement Bulawayo's vehicle paid parking system three years ago, many saw it merely as a revenue-generating initiative for the city. But under Mabuza's visionary leadership, TTI has become much more than just a parking solutions company. Today, it is one of the city's major employers, providing livelihoods to over 300 workers, most of whom are youths from Bulawayo. The company's monthly payroll exceeds a staggering US$100,000, circulating much-needed cash flow within the local economy.
"Like we said at the start of the project, we are not here to only collect revenue for the city council through parking fees," Mabuza stated, his voice brimming with a palpable sense of purpose. "We are also here to provide employment to our youths. The people who are our marshals and those who work in the office are local people who are making a livelihood through TTI."
A New Proposal for Sustainable Partnership
Despite TTI's success in job creation, Mabuza candidly revealed the financial challenges the company has faced. Over the past two years, the firm has grappled with losses, primarily due to the current revenue-sharing agreement with the Bulawayo City Council (BCC). Presently, TTI retains 70 percent of parking fee collections while the council receives 30 percent. Mabuza, however, is advocating for a reversal of this arrangement.
"I have proposed to BCC to flip the 70-30 percentage setup so that they get 70 percent while TTI pockets 30 percent. We are comfortable with 30 percent as long as BCC will from the 70 percent absorb workers and pay salaries and other running costs," he explained. "The 70 percent we get does not fully cover the running costs of the organisation."
This bold proposal underscores Mabuza’s dedication not only to sustaining his business but also to ensuring job security for hundreds of Bulawayo’s residents. If accepted, this arrangement could set a precedent for public-private partnerships in Zimbabwe, where the private sector actively supports municipal services while also prioritizing employment.
A Philanthropist at Heart
Beyond the boardroom, Mabuza's philanthropic endeavors are just as impressive. He has always kept close ties with his roots in Bulawayo, a city that holds a special place in his heart. During the challenging COVID-19 era, Mabuza spearheaded initiatives to support the less privileged, providing food hampers, education bursaries, and healthcare fees for struggling families. This spirit of giving has continued unabated, with TTI playing an active role in supporting vulnerable communities in the region.
"I am glad TTI has also chipped in to assist the less privileged," Mabuza shared. "It’s something we started during the pandemic, and we are committed to continuing this work because it’s not just about business; it’s about building a better society."
Pioneering New Projects for a Brighter Future
Mabuza's passion for community development extends beyond philanthropy. In a bid to address Bulawayo's infrastructure challenges, he has proposed the establishment of a bitumen plant that could partially finance road repairs in the city. This initiative could significantly reduce the city's road maintenance costs while creating new job opportunities for locals.
Additionally, TTI is progressing on its mandate to enhance urban security by installing CCTV cameras throughout the city center. "That is work in progress and is expected to protect cars from thieves," Mabuza assured, highlighting TTI’s commitment to enhancing public safety.
A Multifaceted Business Mogul
Lizwe Mabuza is a man of many hats. Besides his role at TTI, he has successfully ventured into various sectors, including retail, real estate, agriculture, and mining, both within Zimbabwe and abroad. His security company in South Africa employs thousands, further testament to his business acumen and commitment to job creation. Yet, despite his diverse portfolio, Mabuza remains deeply invested in the welfare of Bulawayo.
A Role Model in Corporate Social Responsibility
As the vehicle parking management system continues to expand in cities like Harare, Gweru, and Kwekwe, Lizwe Mabuza's model of corporate social responsibility stands as a beacon of hope. His commitment to youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and community welfare has solidified his reputation as a leading figure in Bulawayo's socio-economic landscape.
While many companies talk about giving back, Lizwe Mabuza and Tendy Three Investments are living proof that true social responsibility goes beyond profits. It’s about empowering people, uplifting communities, and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
As Bulawayo continues to grow and develop, it is leaders like Lizwe Mabuza who are lighting the way forward, demonstrating that business can be a force for good in society.
