Bulawayo City councillors have raised serious concerns over the city's dwindling water bowser fleet, with only one out of seven bowsers currently operational - crippling emergency water delivery during critical moments such as funerals and supply disruptions.
According to the latest council minutes on Water Distribution, Councillor Felix Madzana noted that since the start of the 2023–2028 municipal period, all bowsers had been grounded. The shortage has severely impacted high-lying areas like Ward 18, which often miss out on water reconnections following pipe bursts, pump failures, or prolonged power outages.
Mayor David Coltart attributed the crisis to poorly equipped council workshops, which have hindered vehicle maintenance and repairs. He stressed the need for urgent investment in both water bowsers and the broader council fleet.
Councillor M. Mabeza assured that a few bowsers would be procured soon, while Councillor Roy Sekete announced that a joint committee meeting would be convened to address service delivery challenges.
The councillors urged the city to prioritize bowser acquisition and maintenance to ensure reliable water access for all residents.
