THE former Roman Catholic Archbishop for Bulawayo, Pius Ncube attended an MDC organised meeting recently, raising eyebrows that the disgraced man of the cloth could be probably be venturing into politics.
Ncube was on Thursday last week spotted attending the meeting at the Zimbabwe Allied Workers Union building located at Lobengula Street and First Avenue, at about 11 am.
The controversial cleric, Ncube was not immediately available for comment yesterday, but MDC's youth wing organising secretary, Mr Descent Bajila, who was one of the speakers confirmed his attendance.
Mr Bajila of the MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube said the meeting was not about addressing party structures, but was for opinion leaders.
"That meeting was meant for opinion leaders that we wanted to speak to as a party, not to recruit or introduce our candidates.
"The meeting had other opinion leaders such as Thabani Nyoni, Roderick Fayayo and Dumisani Nkomo among others and Ncube was invited as an opinion leader," said Mr Bajila.
In 2007 Ncube resigned as Bulawayo Archbishop in shame after he was involved with Mrs Rosemary Sibanda, estranged wife of Mr Onesimus Sibanda, a Bulawayo resident.
Mrs Sibanda herself, now late admitted that she had an affair with the Archbishop, despite his vow to celibacy, which Catholic priests are sworn to.
In September 2007, it was announced that Pope Benedict XVI had accepted the resignation of Ncube from the pastoral government of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bulawayo, after the affair that was even caught on camera.
Ncube has been in hibernation since the infamous revelations about his affair, but he is understood to be working in the church and is based in Hwange, Matabeleland North.
It is understood that although he is no longer a bishop, from time to time he conducts mass to a limited number of people.
